Contacting your MLA

  • In order for Assemmbly Members and MPs to speak out about autism at government level, they have to be moved by the plight of their constituents. It is always worth involving your MLA  in your efforts to bring about change.
  • MLAs can be a powerful influence on those making decisions at a ministerial and local level. They can write to represent your views or ask questions about education - local newspapers and televison are always interested in your MLA's views and activities.
    • Find the names of your MLA and MP by typing in your post-code here: writetothem You can phone them and write to him/her for assistance.

If you are going to write to your MLA:

    • ensure that you all live in his/her constituency (MLAs will only take up issues from their own constituents)
    • seek to persuade, not to confront
    • be clear on your facts and keep to the point
    • include your personal experience if you can as this makes the most impact
